PLAYLIST OF SONGS/CREDITS (not exact): carti playlist

PLAYLISTS OF VIDEO CONTENT: carti amvs & carti rap amvs

...

I have had this video in the back of my mind for a long time.

This playlist is exactly how I've heard it for 4+ years now.

Every little glitch, cut, and silence.

I'll still add songs to the playlist very rarely, but this is a pretty solid capture of the vibe.

Due to copyrighted content I was unable to host this on YouTube so enjoy this site as long as it exists.

I own none of the music shared here that is not my own.

TIMECODE - SONG - VIDEO

00:00:00 - LONG TIME - PLAYBOI CARTI

I remember waking up basically every morning to this song. My day started here, the few workouts I did started here, 10 hour road trips started here. A hell of a way to kick off anything in life. And it has never not been a banger.

Playboi Carti became a weird kind of sustinence to me. Since college I've had to learn to recontextualize my relationship with this music. Not only has it been heavily tied to tough memories, but it was a compulsive response to not enter my brain much at all. In an age of overthinking, this was helpful.

These days I'm hoping my responses to enter this space are more intentional than compulsive.

00:03:31 - RIP BUSTER - SMASH

A bit of timeline: I did an early year of college before leaving the house to go to Evangel University. That left me with 3 years out of the house, and I filled that shit up with smash. Played it all the time, watched it ALL the time. That was probably my main form of content during those years actually. Watching smash clips, the documentary, specific streamers. I was pretty much the only one on campus that avidly played so I'd often rope my friends into playing with me. They are too kind.

I'm more of a Melee head now than an Ultimate player, and I had the honor of getting my clock cleaned at Genesis 9 just this last year. That was a bucket list moment realized. I awkwardly met some of my favorite creators in the scene, I got trounced, I watched Cody v Jmook, it was amazing.

I met HomeMadeWaffles and had no idea what to say so I just looked up at the ceiling of the venue and was like "It's amazing to be here" and He was like "right on man" and we left and I felt like an idiot.

00:06:26 - CANCUN (GENESIS) - MARKIPLIER & OTHER YOUTUBERS

A lot of YouTube content was consumed. OTV, idubbbz, Ludwig, Mizkif, Clint Stevens. Tons more but I'm now afraid of namedropping someone who gets canceled.

I chose Markiplier FNAF Jumpscare Compilation for this amv because I really vividly remember having Covid, being locked in my suite, and devouring ALL of the Markiplier FNAF episodes like I was back in middleschool.

00:08:23 - SKY (GENESIS) - QUENTIN TARANTINO

Also during quarantine I had a Quentin Tarantino kick, starting with Django Unchained. Eventually I made my way to Pulp Fiction and further understood his directing/storytelling style. I have a good handful more to watch, but it's very inspiring actually. He's an interesting guy but he tells incredible stories.

00:11:38 - RIP BUT THE INTRO TRANSCENDS YOU - AOT

Attack On Titan is MAJOR for me.

One of my eventual best friends sat me down the first night we really hung out and took me through the first five episodes. And if anyone's seen the show you know what goes down five episodes in.

We eventually made it a habit since I had my own room. He'd come in and we'd sit around my computer and watch an episode or two or three. We grew super close during this time. He's a very good friend.

The show itself came into view for me very recently actually. I started to get a full grasp of the themes and through lines, the characters and story... holy fucking shit dude. This show. Bar none one of the greatest shows I've ever watched. The creativity is off the charts in so many aspects. The character development is phenomenal and the story is heartwrenching for all the worst and best reasons.

I'm on the edge of my seat for the finale.

00:15:06 - LEAN 4 REAL - BREAKING BAD

What AOT is for me as a show, Breaking Bad is for my brother.

We spent a very long amount of time binging this show by the end of my senior year. And one year later I'm finally starting to understand how incredible it is. I just finished Better Call Saul and this is one of those shows that makes me glad I'm alive when I am. One of those legendary kinds of things.

00:18:03 - SHOOTA - POKEMON LEGENDS ARCEUS & BDSP

I bought both of these games and shared them with another best friend of mine.

BDSP was a walk through memory lane and I was LOVING it. I had pearl, which is actually the first pokemon game I ever got in elementary school, which I tore through. While the internet was losing their shit over glitches and discrepancies, how awful the game was and all that junk, I was having the time of my life. I felt like a kid again.

Legends Arceus was a completely new adventure and hit so hard after BDSP post game depression. My favorite part by far was the process of catching new pokemon. I love the break from traditional RPG elements, and the crescendio to the final boss battle was incredible. As soon as that music started playing I got deep chills, and the third phase freaked me out.

00:20:37 - 20MIN SEGA - COMMUNITY

I watched this show twice? Three times? It was a very seasonal thing.

Pierce Hawthorne is goated, idc what Chevy did.

Okay actually I care a little because Donald Glover is also the best but still.

Those two characters are easily the funniest.

00:24:18 - DO IT AGAIN - RESIDENT EVIL BIOHAZARD & VILLAGE

Me and a different best friend played through both of these games and it was SO SO SO FUN. I had watched Markiplier play RE7 in highschool, so to come back to it in college and actually experience it was incredible. Me and my guy had many jumpscares in 7.

THEN 8 CAME OUT.

Dude that was so sick.

I played like 30% of the time because I was so ass at the game. It was awesome to share that experience. I better play with him when 9 comes out.

00:26:27 - DRUNK N NASTY - DREAM MINECRAFT

Dream is weird. And so are Minecrafters. But in college his manhunts were a major event. The redux redux redux.

It was initially super fun to watch him beat the odds and survive. It was an impressive display of skill.

But by the end of it I was cheering for the hunters. Like Dream was the bad guy trying to kill an innocent dragon.

The crazy moments live in my head. If it was all fake I would be bummed for a week and then deeply appreciate how awesome the whole thing was regardless.

00:30:47 - ROULX CARD GETS DRUNK N NASTY - DELTARUNE CH. 2

I know I spelled it wrong.

Deltarune Chapter 2 was such a cool moment. In my year of early college I had played through Ch 1 (when it came out). Probably a year or two before I had played through Undertale. Toby Fox took the kitchy RPG experience to another level.

The NEO Spamton fight was SICK. I got to it through the snowgrave route as well which added that extra layer of creepiness. I have a feeling that by the time the full game comes out I will be playing through it completely multiple times.

00:32:24 - THRAX EM - SADWORLD

This is another HUGE one. AOT level.

Sadworld crossed my algorithm when Noah did a video with idubbbz. That video is like a beta version of what they really get up to over there. Talk about creativity man.

I was so inspired I made two beat tapes called FEELING SAD, emulating the style of music Noah makes in my own Kirby way. I bit their visual game (hardly; I can't hold a candle to that shit), I bit their tunes, and I even did sketches with Ruby (my sister) inspired by them. It's embarrasing actually. They are so good, and the era I caught them in was peak. Very excited to dig into this new direction Noah's been taking.

00:34:58 - LONG TIME (KIRBY'S MIX) - IMPACTFUL PRODUCERS

I was taking baby steps into producing music on Logic Pro X (I had been working in this app called Auxy for a while). And I never would have gotten where I am now without the inspiration from my favorite producers ever.

The best ever of all time ever is Virtual Riot. When Simulation came out I shit myself. He could murder an entire family in cold blood and I'd still have to say he's the best. Because he's just the best.

Barely Alive caught me off guard. I'd been following him for a while but he took some steps in his Computer Love EP that KILLED. The way he handles distortion and gaps of silence in his mix are so so cool.

I also got into Space Laces my second year. The mix king himself. Space Laces is as meta as they say. Vaultage 3 was life changing. I got to see him live b2b with VR recently and I was over the moon. One of the best shows I've ever been to in my lifetime.

I suck at producing but I'm learning. This is a song where the idea is cool but the mix is trash. I have a lot of those.

00:38:11 - CASH SHIT - MOB PSYCHO 100

First anime I ever watched. Shit made me cry.

Read the manga as well. Shit made me laugh so hard. And cry.

On an added note, One Punch Man (the webcomic, not the manga) is one of the greatest pieces of creative work I've ever read in my lifetime. SO much good shit is coming out of Japan. The conceptualism is incredible.

00:41:05 - WHOLE LOTTA RED - IMPACTFUL MUSICIANS

All of these artists, and some more of them, reigned beside Carti in my headphones. Each with incredible albums that came out in my time in college. Some of these I feel funny putting next to each other. Like Oliver Tree next to Don Toliver next to Childish Gambino. The Oliver Tree season was very different than the Tyler The Creator season, don't get me wrong. But I've gotta have it all there. It's all a part of the story. I was gonna slide Post Malone and Joji in too.

I have to say that out of these years, the most impactful artist (if not more impactful than Carti) was JPEGMAFIA. LP! was a brain blast and OFFLINE! was a brain frier. And he's only getting better.

00:43:56 - VAMP ANTHEM - PAPER MARIO TTYD

Toby (brother) bought me Paper Mario TTYD for Christmas??? I'm pretty sure Christmas of '20.

I had sold it when I was a kid because I didn't understand the stupidest fetch quest in the game.

Replaying it to completion was amazing. I had bought a tube TV from savers back in highschool and propped that up on my fridge. It was placed perfectly past the bottom of my bed so I could lay out and play Gamecube. I also ran through Super Paper Mario for Wii but TTYD reigns supreme.

I have many favorite moments but my FAVORITE moment is when Bowser appears at the very end of the game and you have to face him as a double boss fight. Back to back after the weird X-Naut guy, no healing, he's been chasing you the whole game and he accidentally finds the throse room to the ultimate treasure, and bowser says "What's a finale without a Bowser appearence, huh? A cruddy finale, that's what!" Fucking sick as hell.

00:46:00 - NEW N3ON - 1917 & JOKER

These are weird movies to put back to back but I watched them both in the same theater, kind of in the same spot, and both struck me deeply. I included my favorite scenes from each movie.

1917: The lighting in the flare scene mixed with the rising action and music makes me feel things.

Joker: Arthur finds acceptance in this crescendio. It's sick and twisted and sad. He knows no better. He's been given no better. Incredible.

I hope to make something half as good as these moments. One day.

00:47:57 - OVER - BO BURNHAM'S INSIDE

This one I kept coming back to. I barely understood or paid attention my first watch through, and by the third I was picking up more and more. My current favorite note is his thematic equation of the concept of existing "inside" in a physical, emotional, and VIRTUAL sense. What was initially a COVID thing became a really incredible commentary on human nature in an age where an addictive overload of information is pushing people to find security in an increasingly addictive overload of information. The mental health deterioration, the political and social commentary, his journey as an individual in the spotlight, his journey as a comedian, his journey as a young boy. There are so many lenses you can look through for this piece. It's also very very funny. I love it. I think it's a wonderful work of art.

00:51:26 - ILOVEUIHATEU - IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY

The bloopers kept me coming back the more disgusted I got with their actions. It really took me a while to get it.

And then I got it. What a show. So fucking funny. Some of the storylines made me cry. Each character is so rich, and the process of flanderization only served to add to the narrative that they're all losing their minds the more they live like they do. The greater characatures of themselves, the funnier and more intense they would get. And it stays funny still.

I've gotta add that Dee's experience in therapy is one of the most incredible parts of the show. That was the moment where I realized how aware the cast was of each of their characters. The depravity leading to comedy but still ultimately so sad.

They are brilliant over there.

00:54:06 - HELL SHELL - SMILING FRIENDS

This show caught my attention a couple months before serialization. The brand of comedy these guys have is so unique and incredibly funny. The gags are so subtle and extend into the animation to perfectly. There's oodles of jokes I haven't noticed whatsoever that will surface with every watch. The comedy is really studied too. The jokes feel like they stem from some of the greats, but are still SO them and so unique. There's something incredibly strong going on with even just the first season of this show.

00:57:16 - @MEH LLUSION - KATANA ZERO

SADWORLD, AOT, Smash level impact with this game.

Riding mototrcycles I had the very cognitive thought: "Oh this is it. This game is it."

I got it late highschool and speedran it all throughout my first year at Evangel. I never uploaded a time, but at one point I compared my time with the leaderboard and I was 72nd. This was during a pretty undeveloped stage in the meta but I'm still proud of myself. And incredibly stoked for the DLC whenever that drops.

The video here is actually a playthrough of mine from way back then. I was conscious of the blood at the time so I turned that off. Also to speedrun you want to turn screenshake and hitstun off, but if you're playing for the first time you want ALL that on for sure. There's a lot of juice with each hit.

00:59:44 - 7AM - LOFI

One night in my friend's bunk we were both doing homework. I had a huge script to write, he had something crazy to do I'm sure. I was listening to lofi music and looked down at him and thought "this is what college is about." Maybe one of my fondest memories.

Lofi and Carti went hand in hand. Probably an equal amount of listen time with both my lofi playlist and carti playlist. Very curated. My 2020 - 2022 recapped playlist is basically just a mashup of Carti and lofi.

01:03:18 - TELL EM - TELL EM

This is the first song that got me into the whole vibe of Carti, and it wasn't even a Carti song.

This shit hit me sideways on tiktok and eventually I found myself down the rabit hole of space beats and autotune heaven.

Walking down the quad listening to this one was a joy. I owe this whole video and Carti experience in college to this song.

(Check out sc6ut for sick edits. I used an edit of his in this portion of the video but I wanted to distort it enough to make you go find it.)

01:06:19 - 9AM IN CALABASAS -    ...

Thank you.

I had a mental breakdown in college. A big one.

And it's been tough still. And I wasn't sure if I wanted to be alive.

And sometimes I'm still not sure.

But I'm very glad I still am. There's a lot I would've missed out on if I died.

And probably a lot more still. <3
